August 12th marks the official launch of Aleph Zero EVM Mainnet. This is a significant milestone for the whole ecosystem as after nearly three years of operations in the WASM environment, Aleph Zero gets EVM compatibility to broaden the distribution of its original solutions such as zkOS,and expedite their development.
This move is not a transition–it’s an expansion for Aleph Zero as the layer 1 is still the network that boasts flawless track record of operations, subsecond finality, extensive security, and low transaction and storage fees. These features allow it to remain the backbone of the ecosystem, either for institutional adoption or as a Data Availability Layer to Aleph Zero EVM and its appchains.
The Aleph Zero EVM Layer-2, developed in collaboration with Gelato, a top-tier Rollup-as-a-Service provider, utilizes Arbitrum Orbit technology to deliver a highly efficient and rapid blockchain solution. This powerful combination achieves block times as low as 250 milliseconds, with transaction finality occurring almost instantly. With the ability to handle thousands of transactions per second, it stands out as one of the fastest EVM-compatible chains.

A release in stages
Following the ethos of building in public, Aleph Zero EVM Mainnet release features several stages. Currently, the network is fully operational, although only with an initial portion of AZERO supply bridged by the core development team.
AZERO serves as the gas fee on both the WASM L1 and EVM L2. To obtain it on Aleph Zero EVM at the current stage, you can bridge one of the assets from Ethereum using canbridge.alephzero.org canonical bridge–during this operation you’ll also receive 1 AZERO. At the current levels of transaction fees (approx. 0.005 AZERO on Aleph Zero EVM), this will allow you to cover hundreds of initial transactions and even deploy smart contracts.
The EVM Mainnet is currently tested for multiple metrics, such as transaction and block times.
The next stage involves launching the MOST bridge with direct connection between the Aleph Zero EVM and Aleph Zero WASM. This milestone will enable free flow of AZERO between the two networks, scheduled already for September.
In the next releases, we’ll introduce zkOS features to Aleph Zero EVM as well as launch the possibility of using Aleph Zero WASM as the Data Availability layer.
Why and what for? Introducing vib3s
The launch of the Aleph Zero EVM brings full compatibility with widely-used Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) tools. This advancement enables developers to create Solidity smart contracts and applications with enhanced account abstraction capabilities.
Additionally, this compatibility simplifies the integration of AZERO with exchanges, bridges, and tracking tools, greatly increasing the ecosystem’s accessibility and adaptability.
Together with Aleph Zero EVM, we’re introducing vib3s, a whitelabel solution for sports and entertainment industry that allows organizations to introduce the benefits of web3 into loyalty programs with web2-like user experience thanks to account abstraction features. The whitelabel app has been built by Aleph Zero, with solutions from Upcade, Holyheld, Thirdweb, idOS, and others.
The project will launch its first implementation this month, targeting a large-scale entertainment use case in Europe. The largest in its category, in fact.
